The Pennsbury Falcons field hockey team remains undefeated after beating the Council Rock North 3-0 this Thursday.
The first half was fairly uneventful, with a few fast breaks that resulted in failed attempts on goal.
However, five minutes into the second half, senior captain Nell Webber scored the first point of the game for Pennsbury with a running shot. Not to be outdone, fellow senior captain Olivia Mauro scored less than two minutes later.
“I really love this team and I’m really glad we could both step up as seniors and lead the team,” said Webber.
“A lot of us have been playing together since freshman year so it’s really nice to be able to end on a good note,” Mauro added.
Pennsbury’s Maya Geller, junior captain, also scored from long with seven minutes remaining to put the third point on the board.
Pennsbury showed tremendous passing skill and teamwork throughout the game, keeping the ball on Council Rock North’s side of the field for most of the game. Mauro humorously pointed out that one advantage that Pennsbury had was that they were acclimated to their less than stellar fields.
“We have one of the worst fields in the league I would say,” Mauro laughed. “We are good at recognizing the bumps in the field, and other turf teams don’t know how to adjust.”
This victory brings Pennsbury closer to a perfect season, but it’s too early to celebrate.
“We’re hoping to take it one game at a time, win our next regular season games, and then go as far as we can in the playoffs,” Webber said.
